What is it like being a female in the male-dominated field of law? What does it take to build a successful career as a female attorney? Is it possible to have work-life balance? Answers to these questions and more will be shared when Kim Gatling, an attorney at Greensboro’s Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP, tells her story on Wednesday, September 19.
Kim Gatling, a U.S. Registered Patent Attorney and North Carolina Board Certified Trademark Specialist, practices in the areas of patents, trademarks, copyrights, computer and e-commerce law, and related licensing and litigation matters. She graduated cum laude from North Carolina A&T State University in 1996 and graduated from George Washington University Law School in 1999, where she served on the editorial board of the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal. Not only is she licensed to practice law in North Carolina, she is also licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and before the United States Supreme Court.
In addition to her legal work, Kim is actively engaged with the community. She is on the Boards of Directors for a number of local organizations, including the United Way of Greater Greensboro, the Cone Health Foundation, the Gateway University Research Park, the North Carolina A&T State University Real Estate Foundation, and the Greensboro Bar Association. Kim also serves as Chair of Board of Visitors for North Carolina A&T State University. She is also a member of World Victory International Christian Center, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Links Incorporated, and Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
